Infant Room

The Infant Room

Our classroom is geared to help accomplish milestones in that first year.  We have tummy time mats to help strengthen the proper muscles to crawl.  Our mini ballet bar and mirror encourage your little one to stand and eventually walk.  Our shelves are at an apropriate height for giving your little one access to an array of manipulatives.  There are objects to climb on, mirrors to look at, and places to cuddle with others, or just be alone for awhile.  When it is time for rest, the babies are lulled to sleep in cozy swinging hammocks.

Sensory activities are also a big part of what we work on.  They're activities that require your baby to use their five senses to learn.  These experiences are curcial in developing your baby cognitively and creatively.

The infant room isn't on a classroom schedule.  We follow your child's personal schedule.  It is common that after your little one starts, his schedule might change slightly in the midst of the transition.  As your baby gets close to transitioning to the waddler room we do try and get them prepared for a classroom schedule, and we'll let you know prior to doing so.

Classroom Goals:

>>To provide a safe and loving environment that promotes learning.

>>To promote language skills by reading and signing.

>>To promote your infant's growth in mobility.

>>To entice curiosity, leading to cognitive development through sensory exploration.

>>To help your little one grow up with a respect and love for others.

>>To promote your infant's social/emotional skills through group play.

Keeping You Involved:

We make it a point to keep you involved in your child's day and communication plays a big part in that.  We are always happy to take a moment to tell you what we are working on with your child and what you can do at home to help their development.

Portfolios:

Each child at The Cottage  gets a portfolio.  It contains representative samples of their art work and photos.

Daily Sheets:

Each day your child has a document containing information about your child's day.  It has the times of your child's feedings, when they were changed, how long they napped, if they are getting low on anything, and activities done that day.  At the end of each day you are given this daily sheet.
