Classroom Goals-For our 1 year olds our goal is to provide an atmosphere that promotes safety, learning and fun.  

We do that by rotating toys, offering open ended art opportunities, filling the environment with print and by providing toys and furniture that encourage exploration.

• To encourage self regulation and independence.   We do this by helping the children express themselves with language and signs and showing value for their feelings.  Rather than doing everything for the children, we offer help and support as they develop new skills.  To a one year old, each accomplishment is a small miracle and we strive to see the miracles in each moment of the day.
• To provide a warm, loving atmosphere.  We do this by listening to the children’s feelings and needs, communicating with parents and offering love and understanding whenever needed.
• To encourage appropriate social interaction with peers and adults.  We do this by creating a consistent schedule, setting clear limits and boundaries and providing natural consequences.

Primary Care

With this age group we utilize primary care to help us provide the most attentive care possible.  Basically, each child is “assigned” to a primary teacher. 

This person is responsible for all of your child’s daily needs.  This one teacher will change your child’s diapers, set their goals, and put an emphasis on being there for your child specifically.  This allows for more one on one time, creating stronger bonds and a more secure atmosphere for your child. 

Your child’s primary will also be your partner in the care of your child.  Having a close relationship with your child’s primary will help them have a better relationship with your child.

Portfolios

This is your child’s individual folder where we file artwork, medical records, observations and pictures.  Your child’s portfolio will follow them through their different class rooms, and as they grow is a great way to track their growth and development.  Feel free to take a look at your child’s portfolio anytime.
